Why Budapest is the Top Location for Digital Nomads (According to Nomadlist)

Why Budapest is the top rated spot according to NomadList

All casual tourists dream about visit places such as Paris, London or New York, but there’s a ton of hidden gems out there that don’t get enough attention. Come to think of it, that’s probably not a bad thing for us that call ourselves digital nomads, as we get to explore these locations in peace.

Budapest

One of the cities that’s definitely been on the rise in recent years is Budapest. In fact, one of the world’s most popular travel websites, NomadList, even ranked it at the very top of places you need to visit! How come? Let’s take a deeper dive into what the capital of Hungary has to offer.

You’ll get a lot of things for your buck

European capitals tend to be on the more expensive side, but luckily, Budapest is an exception that confirms the rule. With estimated costs of living standing at $1,714 per month, chances are you will still have at least some wiggle room left to experience the city as it was meant to be. Even if that tops your budget, trust me when I say this, Budapest offers so many terrific tourist attractions that you’ll be amazed after taking just a quick stroll around the city center, and you won’t have to spend a dime while doing so.

The weather is lovely, most of the time

Don’t let yourself get scared by the talks of the harsh winter conditions Budapest is notorious for. Sure, it does get a little chilly during the winter months, but the rest of the year, the weather is just fine. One thing’s for certain, whenever you decide to head down there, the air quality will catch you by surprise. After visiting some popular Asian cities, the air in Budapest seemed like a spa to me, and that’s not exactly an exaggeration either.

But what about fun?

We simply have to mention some of the glorious architectural marvels you’ll have to check out. Start with St Stephen’s Basilica and then take a walk down the vintage cobbled streets, perfect for pedestrians. Once there, you’ll catch a glimpse of places such as the Museum of Ethnography, and right across the street from it, the wonderful Parliament Building that will simply blow you away with its breathtaking Neo-Gothic style. Even by today’s standards, this monumental building perfectly showcases the power that the Austro-Hungarian Empire used to possess.

After you get done with sightseeing, we advise you to head down towards one of the Budapest nightclubs, and we can almost guarantee that after spending some time there, you’ll simply never want to leave ever again. Despite the fact that these parties can get pretty wild, Budapest is a city known for being very safe, so you won’t have to about that. The locals are pretty friendly to strangers, although their English speaking skills leave something to be desired. Still, everyone understands what a great party is supposed to look like, that's for sure.

It’s a paradise for digital nomads

Partying all night long and sightseeing is grand, but at the end of the day, most of us have to actually work for a living. I guess that’s the downside of a nomadic lifestyle, we all need to learn where to draw the line. Budapest is definitely a city with lots of temptations, but no one can deny that it also offers more than enough cozy cafés you can work from. Once there, you’ll also quickly notice that free Wi-Fi is well spread through the whole city, and that, on most occasions, the Internet speed is more than decent, clocking in at 31 mbps on average.

Budapest is the heart of Europe

Some might have a problem with this statement, but it’s absolutely true, at least strictly geographically speaking. Because Budapest is located at such a neat spot, most other major European capitals are pretty close, some even being no more than a few hour drive away. At the end, we can only advise you to give this beautiful place a chance, and you can bet that it will be the best decision you ever made!
