How about a laptop?
Well, it is often called a laptop backpack, isn't it? The fact is that most modern individuals couldn't even imagine what their life would look like without a laptop by their side. If you're thinking that I'm just a grumpy old man about to go on a rant against these kids, think again. In fact, I'm so in loved with my laptop, I might actually become the president of our little club! All joking aside, I would also advise you to buy yourself a bag with a specially designed compartment ideal for your 15'' MacBook, and Standard has you covered with this awesome everyday backpack! Not only that it fits most laptops perfectly, but you can also relax, knowing that your data will be safe at all times due to an RFID blocker pocket that comes with this neat little thing.
The Daily is the Ultimate Smart Backpack for Work and Travel. With it's unique three-in-one design, you can use it like a briefcase, backpack, or a messenger bag.
Are you feeling thirsty right now? If you are, go ahead and take a sip or two, I can wait. Most of us aren’t even aware of the fact that our bodies are dehydrated all the time. There are thousands of articles out there which that claim humans aren’t drinking enough water on a daily basis.
However, if you carry a bottle of water with you, that problem will be solved. Almost all modern backpacks have a specially designed compartment for this purpose, and it’s usually easily accessible. If you up your water intake, your mood should improve, and acne and headaches will be a thing of the past.
When you’re hungry, and you find yourself far away from home, what’s the first thing you’re gonna do? Chances are you will head straight to that fast food joint you love, or munch on a box of cookies. There’s no need to explain why this is a bad habit.
Prepare ahead of time, and you won’t run into trouble too often. Don’t worry, you don’t have to make complicated meals. Just a simple salad or a pack of unsweetened walnuts will make the hunger go away. Oh yeah, and let’s also mention that you’ll save quite a few bucks this way.
How about a nice book?
There’s nothing more annoying that being stuck in traffic. This is especially true for individuals who use public transportation systems. Let’s face it, you won’t be able to do a thing about it, and every minute you spend stuck in a crowded bus will seem like eternity. However, don’t just give in to the desperation. The way I see it, you can spend that time getting more and more irritated, or you can travel to somewhere much more interesting instead, naturally, just by using your imagination. Having a good book by your side is the best way to do so.
Now, I understand that not everyone is an old soul like myself, but feel free to use any gadget of your choice, such as a Kindle for example. These devices are easy on your eyes, and their batteries last forever. Furthermore, they’re usually pretty light, and don’t take up too much space. With all that being said, I think I’ll still stick to my old school ways. Nothing can replace that vintage book smell!
Pocket tissues are among the most practical things you can carry around in your backpack. They don’t take up a ton of space, weigh close to nothing, but it’s better to have them around, just in case you catch a cold. Furthermore, you can use them to clean a dirty park bench, in case you need to catch a break from all that walking around.
Whether you’re a high school kid who’s constantly running around, or a person stuck behind the desk of a highly stressful job, chances are you’ll need to have a deodorant near you wherever you go. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t need to use this emergency deodorant every day, but when the times comes for it, it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry. In case you’re hitting the gym on a daily basis, you might want to consider packing a body wash or a shampoo as well.
I don’t even have to explain why this is important for those who are receiving therapy at the moment, but even if you’re perfectly healthy, it might be a good idea to bring a small pack of Aspirin or ibuprofen with you. The ladies should also pack their pain relieving medication, just in case. Don’t take this the wrong way, there’s no need to be a moving pharmacy now, but these quick fix medications can improve your mood in minutes, especially if you’re dealing with constant headaches and migraines.
In case you live in a warm, sunny area, glasses are probably your number 1 accessory. Truth be told, many individuals simply love them as a fashion accessory, and that’s also perfectly fine. Here’s a little confession: I absolutely hate them. Despite that fact, I cannot deny that they can be a life saver when it comes to driving. It took a lot of time before I turned this into a habit, but nowadays, I carry my sunglasses around everywhere I go.
Scarf and gloves
A great big chuck of our audience lives up north, where the temperatures aren’t too far from freezing. To them, having a nice pair of gloves and a warm scarf are a must, but even if you’re based in a tropical city, you can find some good use for these items. It’s known that the fashion industry never stops, and nowadays, it’s not hard to notice trendy individuals who use scarfs as a fashion accessory. I’ll be honest and admit that this is not really my cup of tea, but the ladies sure seem to love it. Some sacrifices have to be made in order to look good.
Not a huge music buff? It doesn’t even matter. Nowadays, podcasts are getting up there in popularity, and some would even say they are revolutionizing the game. Sports themed talk shows were very popular back in the day, but now, you can even improve your knowledge with podcasts that focus on history or geography.
With these shows on, it seems that getting stuck in traffic isn’t as tragic as it once was. Best of all, a decent pair of headphones won’t set you back too much, as long as you stick with some lesser known brands, and the quality can surprise you. When it comes to public transport, headphones are definitely my go to weapon.
Contrary to the readers that live in warmer climates, many members of our respective audience live in areas where it rains practically every day. Luckily, umbrellas are an effective tool to help you avoid getting wet, and they won’t take up too much space inside your backpack. I’ll be the first to admit that they annoy the heck out of me, but at the end of the day, you wouldn’t want to catch a cold, now would you?
Portable phone charger
Whether you’re a gamer, you text a lot, or simply talk on the phone frequently, you probably noticed that your phone battery is the first thing to go. And that also seemingly happens at the most inopportune time as well. To avoid all this hassle, buy yourself a portable charger ASAP. This brilliant device doesn’t cost a fortune, but it will expand the life expectancy of your battery with ease. And once you do, pack it in your backpack and don’t let it out of your sight!
Packable rain jacket
I know that I already mentioned umbrellas, and by now you also know how much I dislike them. Still, even a person such as myself needs to avoid getting sick while traveling, and there’s no way that one can remain healthy if being wet all the time. Plus, if you’re traveling to a place with a known rainy climate, you are well aware of the fact that this nuisance can ruin your day in a hurry. So, what’s the solution? Always have a packable rain jacket at hand! These things don’t take up a ton of space, and they are genuinely effective, I can guarantee that much. Now, some of you more fashion-aware individuals might claim that this is a huge no-no, but when you find yourself freezing in rainy London, like I previously have, you’ll want to have it by your side.
If you have short hair, this probably doesn’t concert you too much. Well, it might if you have a long beard to go with it, so stick around! All joking aside, but a comb is quite a useful tool to get yourself in order after a long day. Best of all, it will only take a couple seconds to do so. It weighs close to nothing, hardly takes up any space at all, and 100% of people with long hair will find it useful at some point. With those kind of odds, you’d be mad not to get one for yourself! Those of you who are not as extreme might also go with a hairbrush, but in comparison to combs, these things just take up too much space, and for me personally, it just doesn’t seem worth it.
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Seriously, a toothbrush in my everyday backpack? If you find yourself asking this question, chances are you’re not living your life to the fullest. Most digital nomads find themselves constantly on the go, and those who like to head out into the wilderness on a couple day walks will especially realize why it’s always smart to have these items at arm’s reach. I’m all in for that crazy camping lifestyle, but if I cannot take care of my dental hygiene, count me out! Luckily, I never have a problem, as I always keep this combo in my back pocket.
Nope, in case you were wondering, these things are not solely intended for the elderly. In fact, a lot of professional climbers aren’t afraid to use it, as they have no fear of not looking cool. Once you learn how to use the trekking poles correctly, you’ll quickly realize that you’ve been missing out on a lot! Not only that these things make hiking a lot easier, regardless of the roughness of terrain, they also help in reducing the pressure on your joints, keeping you injury free for a long time! As far as the dimensions go, most modern day trekking poles can be folded, so they won’t take up the entirety of your backpack, and those made from carbon will also be super lightweight.
This is another one of those items inexperienced travelers always seem to forget. To be honest, I cannot actually blame you. Until I started traveling, I rarely ever noticed how much I use this tiny contraption. But trust me, if you find yourself in a foreign country, it will take three days at most before you begin to realize that you should’ve added it to the list. However, if you don’t travel all that much, it doesn’t have to be all that high on your list of priorities.
There are tons of flashlights to choose from these days. Despite their small dimensions, these things can pack a punch, so to speak, and are surprisingly effective. When it comes to practicality, they only have one purpose, but an important one, if I might add.
Ultimately, it’s your choice
But wait, if you pack all of the items I mentioned, will your backpack weigh a ton? Not if you chose the right one! Furthermore, we are all unique individuals with our own set of needs and desires. I just tried to give you an idea of what works best for a lot of people, but it’s you that gets to choose the items that best match your needs.
