How Digital Nomads Are Coping with the Pandemic

Before the outbreak of the Coronavirus, it was pretty impossible to even imagine that such a thing can happen in a modern society. Many people believed that the advanced medicine will be able to cope with something like this, but unfortunately, the world as we knew it came to a sudden stop.

While the pandemic undoubtedly reached even the most remote areas of the planet and it affected us all, some people were better equipped to cope with this situation than others. Digital nomads were among those who had the necessary skills that allowed them to retain financial stability when everything else seemed in question. Still, what were some of the other difficulties they had to face? Let’s dive a bit deeper into it.

Digital Nomads were better suited to deal with constant unknowns

No one was fully ready to tackle the huge changes that occurred in the past couple of months. Luckily, we digital nomads were forced to learn how to deal with the ever changing surroundings, which made the situation a tad more bearable. With several industries coming to a sudden stop, some people were placed under difficult financial situation.

As digital nomads, we know how to cut down on our spending habits, because we live and breathe with constant market fluctuations. We know how huge financial success in one month does not necessarily have to become a trend, and that dry spells are perfectly normal and to be expected. Still, even the most optimistic ones among us are more than happy to see that things appear to be moving in a better direction.

While some industries faced financial collapse, others thrived

Naturally, while all digital nomads have certain things that connect them, there is a huge variety of jobs that can be performed in this manner. Therefore, when the crisis hit, people’s experiences were vastly different. Certain niches, such as the gaming industry, have exploded in popularity, simply due to the fact that people were forced to stay at home and had to find a quality way to spend all of the available time.

On the other hand, those who specialize in sports betting for example, had to clinch their teeth and hope that the storm will pass as soon as possible. Luckily, it seems that most of the world is starting to notice the light at the end of the tunnel. The losses were great for some, but if the economic crises have taught us anything, it’s the fact that business on the verge of collapse can recover if they put the time and effort in. Here’s to hoping that this situation is not gonna last much longer.

Certain countries had it worse than others

Many people believe that digital nomads spend their days roaming from city to city, but the truth is that while we like to visit many destinations, we usually stay at our location of choice for at least a couple months at a time. Getting a visa extension can be tricky in the best of times, but with the Coronavirus outbreak, that task became a whole lot more complicated.

We saw a large number of people struggling to travel back to their relatives in the early days, when the virus was a relative unknown, and many were still forced to stay put and wait until the storm passes. The fear was however much greater in some countries than others, so it’s difficult to speak on this topic on a global level.

Nomads who worked in countries such as Italy and Spain were forced to stay at home for weeks at a time, while those residing in Sweden or Australia still kept much of their ordinary lifestyle. Whatever the case may be, it finally appears that now, we are all looking forward to things returning back to normal. There’s some catching up to be done now, so let us all turn to the happy side of life once again!
