How Holiday Travel will be Different This Year

The holiday season is nearly upon us, but it seems that millions of people are going to have to change their plans due to COVID-19 pandemic that is still raging across the globe. It’s no secret that this year was very rough for everyone, but especially for travelers and digital nomads, who had to change up their lifestyle completely.

For many, the summer vacation was nothing more than a memory, but as the year is coming to a close, the question remains, what will happen to their holiday travel plans? In this article, we will take a look at the current situation and try to predict the future trends as precisely as possible.

Travelers are no longer looking for a quick holiday getaway

Holidays are an amazing time of the year, when we forget about our worries and focus on spending quality time with family, even if it lasts for no more than a couple of days. Sadly, it seems that most travelers are ready to ditch this concept altogether this year, as the risks are simply too big to ignore.

On the other hand, those who dare to travel are now looking to prolong their holiday season as much as possible. That is the most noticeable on websites, such as AirBnB, as users are now making reservations for longer periods compared to past years, where most travelers opted to stay in for no more than a couple of days.

It seems that many are now extending Thanksgiving vacation until Christmas

Naturally, a month-long holiday is nothing more than a dream to most people, and that’s not exactly what we had in mind. Instead, what we wanted to say is that those who have the possibilities to work remotely are now choosing to do that as far away from their home as possible.

Working from home is great when you have the option to travel, but when you’re forced to be stuck in your living room all day long, it becomes a nightmare. That is why plenty of people decided to pack their suitcases and head for a trip that will last from Thanksgiving day all the way to Christmas. While some are rejoining their families, others have turned to long-term renting in a remote destination. Both groups have something in common, though, as changing the current surroundings seems to be the ultimate goal for now.

People are returning to nature once again

Big cities always present a safe choice for those who love to travel to new destinations during the holiday season. Just think of the popular New Year’s Eve celebrations and you’ll get the picture. Well, it seems that this year, none of that is going to happen. Is simply isn’t a safe option.

So, is there a possible alternative on the horizon? As some of you might’ve guessed it, it includes going back to nature, far away from the busy city centers and all the noise. More importantly, these destinations are always way less crowded, which makes them an ideal choice for those who want to be isolated from others. In this day and age, that ranks fairly high on the list of priorities.

Hotels are being replaced by vacation rentals

No matter how much effort tourist workers invest in order to maximize the safety of all visitors, it seems that people have lost the faith in them. Unwilling to fully give up on traveling, they have turned to Booking, AirBnB and other popular websites that offer accommodation.

Even in some previous years, vacation rentals were always popular during this time of the year, and due to the current situation with the coronavirus, it seems that the margin between private accommodation and hotel stay is only going to grow bigger in the future.
