How to travel out of a backpack
Using a travel backpack provides one with infinite mobility and freedom and enables travellers to maximize their travels by allowing them to plan multiple stops throughout the country they are visiting.
Not only will you have less to worry about, you’ll also enjoy not having to lug around a heavy suitcase. To learn how to travel out of a backpack, follow these simple and helpful packing tips.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TRAVEL BACKPACK
When choosing the right travel backpack, it’s important to make sure it fits your body type comfortably. Look for a backpack that has a cushioned back, hip and shoulder straps that adjust and plenty of pockets and compartments to help keep your things organized.
Size matters. If you’re planning on a short weekend getaway, a day-pack will probably be your best option but if you’re planning on a longer journey, you’ll want something a little more heavy duty. Keep in mind that the smaller the backpack, the least likely you are to overpack unnecessary items. Whether you’re planning a week-long tropical vacation or are off to explore Europe for a month or two, a 30-40 liter backpack should suffice.
MINIMIZE AND PACK LIGHT
There is truly an art to packing light and mastering it will help make travelling a breeze. Start by laying out everything you plan on taking with you on your bed, and only take about half of it. Pick up each piece of clothing and ask yourself “Do I really need this?”, and “How many time’s will I actually use it?” If you don’t know for sure whether it’s something you’ll really wear, chances are you won’t miss it. A good tip for packing light is to choose a color scheme so that all your outfits match well.
LEARN TO LAYER
Don’t stuff your pack with heavy and bulky items. Instead, choose lightweight clothes that are easy to layer. Clothing made of Merino wool is a great and versatile option as it has the ability to keep you warm in cold temperatures and cool in hot climates.
Minimize your shoes to 2 pairs. Shoes can really weigh you down so try to pack one’s that are light in weight and go well with the outfits you are planning to wear.
USE PACKING CUBES
Packing cubes are extremely helpful in aiding to maximize space. Travelling with an unorganized bag can be quite a nuisance, especially if you find yourself having to rummage around the bottom of your bag every time you need an item. Use packing cubes to keep your clothes packed in tightly and your belongings well organized.
USE THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR BACKUP
Instead of jam packing all of your belongings into your backpack, take advantage of its exterior and use it to help you carry around a few items. Shoes can be tied by their laces to a strap, hats and travel flashlights can be clipped using carabineers and a sleeping bag can easily be clipped on to the bottom of your bag.
